MY MatMate is a lightweight tool that enables crafters to produce
a professional finish to matting and layering projects, providing the opportunity
to create decorative edges that can also be embossed.

MY MatMate is A4 size pliable opaque plastic with 4 slots of different designs. It has printed lines for measuring distances from the slots in order to mark out the mat size you require - it really is simple to use. The slots can also double up for embossing, soft embossing (my favourite) and paper tearing.

To soft emboss just slide the card through the slot... and emboss using a ball tool.

The two lines to the right of the picture show 'soft embossing' effects that can be cut around to decorate mats or used to texture-fill areas for added interest. Vary the soft embossing effect with different size ball tools.

Just like the majority of Coppernob’s other products MY MatMate is multi-purpose - use it also for paper-tearing to add a shabby-chic look to projects - and make boxes too!

SIMPLE MATTING AND LAYERING TECHNIQUE

Adhere your topper or image onto the matting cardstock leaving sufficient border all around.

Choose the width of border you require by lining up the edge of the image with one of the solid or broken lines on the MatMate. (You can mark your chosen line with a water-based pen if you wish.) Pencil mark along the slot.
Example uses the first broken line for each of the four sides.

Rotate topper and line up edge along chosen marker line. Pencil mark along slot. If using the straight slot you need only mark top and bottom if you wish.

Rotate topper and line up edge along marker line as previous and lightly pencil mark along slot.

Rotate topper, line up on marker line and pencil mark slot.

Our sample uses a four-sided topper – The My MatMate can be used to mark multi-sided straight-edged shapes easily in the same manner e.g. octagons.

When all your sides are marked you have several options for cutting out.

- Line up marks on trimmer and cut.

OR

- Use a trimmer with fancy blades for a variety of edges.

- Cut with scissors – you can use fancy edged ones too!

To add another layer - simply adhere matted image onto new cardstock and line up the edge of first mat along chosen marker line and pencil mark as in the first process.

(Sample uses first broken line again.)

Rotate matted image and continue lining up and marking along the slot. (Centering the image with the red line will enable the corners to be uniform.)

Continue to rotate the topper and line up on chosen marker line - then lightly pencil mark along the slot until all sides are marked.

Cut along pencilled lines.
Finish here – or continue adding more layers if you wish.
